Migrate or start new?

Post by sergeadam »

I have an EFA appliance running on KVM. We are moving to ESXi. VMWare provides a very good converter. I'm trying to figure out if I should convert, or spin up a new appliance.

To convert, which services do I need to stop to ensure a clean conversion?
If I spin up a new one, is there a way to move the DB from the old to the new, to not lose history and the Bayes DB?

I'm not sure what is the version of my current appliance. How can I find out?

Thanks.

I'd convert, if you're confident you can move from KVM to ESXi cleanly. (I've done conversions the other way before successfully, so I'd think you should have no problem)

How long will the conversion take, do you think? Run a test conversion and note the time; then decide if you can live without mail during that window.

I think the only process you'd need to stop are MailScanner and mysqld to ensure a completely clean, no data lost, conversion.

To find your version, do a 'cat /etc/EFA-Version' and see what comes up.

Thanks.

I assume the MailScanner service is actually called 'mailscanner'?

It's a 60GB drive, should be about 2 hours. I think I can deal with bouncing mail for that long.

No, mixed case, exactly as I typed it.

You can verify the name with 'chkconfig --list'

I'm pretty sure I've got the name right.
