Hello, folks, I'm a support analyst turned engineer turned architect turned IT manager (over a nearly three-decade journey  ). I've been running a personal domain for about a decade, now; my immediate family uses it as their primary mail service. I've used several products, by way of complimentary licenses from some of my vendors. Recently, I started using Sophos UTM, which is an enterprise-grade threat management product that's licensed free for home use. Sophos UTM works great, but, although it's managed to remain lightweight, it's complete overkill for an anti-spam and anti-virus solution. As such, I'm looking for the best, most cost-effective (i.e. free ;) ) email security solution, but I need it to be relatively easy to install, configure and maintain; i.e. it can't be a fulltime job to manage this thing.

I ran across the EFA project, and it looks really promising, in as far as the protection it seems to provide via the multitude of engines it seems to include. However...it doesn't seems "simple" enough for me. I downloaded, installed and ran the initial configuration, expecting it to run and having to simply tweak it, but it didn't quite turn out that way. I have been looking for a simple tutorial covering the start-to-finish steps for getting the email filter appliance up and running without rejecting every single message, by default. While I know a little Linux, I am not a Linux SME, so I'm not finding this system as intuitive as I need it to be. I hope to be successful in my quest for instructions to allow me to use this rather promising email security solution.
