Today I see a lot of updates, including kernel
Package updates 197 package updates are available

is it safe to update?

It should be as long as you use the default update exclusion:

yum --exclude="kernel* mysql* postfix* mailscanner* clamav* clamd*" update

(and like always create a snapshot before you upgrade..)

a lot of updates
