Whitelist isn't working

Post by cyberwired »

I've just updated from 3.0.0.2 to 3.0.0.4 but it's made no difference.

If I add an email address into the whitelist, it doesn't seem to be whitelisting the email
Tried adding email address and domain, putting nothing in who its to and putting my email
Emails still come through scanned and not whitelisted

Any ideas?

Just to make sure, but are you adding the from address to the white list?

I have seen some who tried to whitelist the receiving mail address.

Also which user do you use to make the whitelist? The initial admin account or an newer user?

I only use the admin user, our clients don't care for logging in and using it
So I've set up the from address as my personal gmail account, put nothing in the two boxes below, and tried putting my work email in the boxes below
I've also tried just putting gmail.com in the from box, still doesn't whitelist them

We seem to also have an issue with whitelisting & blacklisting.
We have several entries in both, some full email, some domain only, but it doesn't seem to have any effect.

Hello,

for me it looks also like the whitelist entrys are not noticed by the system. The only whitelist entry which is working is the 127.0.0.1 default entry.
For emails from localhost I see the green W/L line. But for all other entrys in the whitelist I get no green W/L line.
Any suggestions which syntax to use that the mailscanner will notice the whitelist entrys? Or is this an issue?

regards,
Dirk

To who also have this problem could you try one thing for me?

Login with ssh to the EFA box (choose option 1 for the shell) and restart mailscanner:

Code: Select all

sudo /etc/init.d/MailScanner restart
I just tried adding some new items to the whitelist and indeed they were not whitelisted  .

After a restart of mailscanner they were whitelisted  .

If this is also the case with your systems we have narrowed it down a bit :P

Could be that mailscanner seems to cache for a bit the black/white lists and periodically refresh them ?

Still no go for me, I just added my gmail account, didn't specify who to so it should whitelist for everyone, sent email through and not whitelisted, restarted mailscanner and tried again and still not whitelisted

When something is whitelisted, is it modifying mailscanner config is it?

I don't know if it makes a difference, but I have about a dozen different entries whitelisted, only 127.0.0.1 works

in the to field, you need the word "default" to make a global whitelist entry.

Sorry to open older topic, but I have the very same problem. Whitelist doesn't work. Only the default 127.0.0.1 works. Doesn't work for any other IP I add.

Double checked if there's default in "to".

Tried to use /etc/MailScanner/rules/spam.whitelist.rules. Didn't work.

Checked whitelist table in mysql (mailscanner), IPs are listed there.

Tried to restart Mailscanner. Didn't help.

Can you share an example of your rule and a message header/spam report of a message that should have been whitelisted?

I'm soooooo stupid...

Was whitelisting scanners, not the smtp server used for sending scans.

It's working now of course :).
