Outbound whitelisted email flagged as spam with multiple recipients

Hi there,
We're having a problem with EFA identifying outbound email as spam, even though the internal mail server and the sender domain are both whitelisted.
The internal server is whitelisted from the IP to "default", and the sender is whitelisted to "default".
If the sender sends an email to a one or a handful of recipients, EFA lets the mail through, with a green W/L on the status page. However if the sender sends an email to many recipients (87 in this case for his newsletter), the whitelisting is ignored, the message identified as spam, and the BCC'd recipients all get a "release from quarantine" email.
The problem seems similar to what solarthread was having in this post: viewtopic.php?t=982
Just to clarify, EFA is the outbound smarthost of the mail server, the server is whitelisted, the sender is whitelisted. The spam classification only seems to happen when the sender sends out an email to multiple recipients.
Any ideas??
Cheers,
Stuart.
