problem with pop3 and imap

Post by fatima2007 »

hello
i have efa between my firewall and my exchange server and emails first go to efa the go to exchange. i want to configure pop3 and imap for my exchnage server but i can not. i first open the firewall ports(110,143,995,993,..) in exchnage server but when i check from internet i see that these ports are closed. in my main firewall i set that all ports go to efa because i want to emails go to efa first. what should i do now? i want to open these ports and use pop3 and imap. should i open these ports in efa or forward these ports from efa iptable to exchange?
please help me

IMAP(S) and POP3(S) - of wich you should only ever use their SSL-variants IMAPS(993) and POPS(995) are client ports and thus need to be forwared to your Exchange Server, not your eFa.

What budy says.

Only map your smtp traffic ports to EFA. Map the imap/pop ports to your exchange server - and you shouldn't use pop if you can avoid it.

…because you said so in your opening post… I don't even know, if Exchange supports pop at all… ;)
Just use IMAP/SSL on port 993…

budy, he was answering my question.

The problem with pop is that it is an old protocol designed for when mailboxes were small and only consisted of an inbox.

If the outlook clients are going to access the exchange server, and they are not going to use the Outlook Web Access connector, then imap is the best choice.
