Next Major Release of EFA

Post by shawniverson »

For EFA version 4x, I feel like there is a need to change some things...

1) Completely RPM-based

I think that efa-update and yum update methods cause issues for existing users. Those that are not familiar with EFA who try to update EFA with yum risk breaking their systems...

Wouldn't it be nice to just yum update at any time you need and know you are running an up-to-date system? EFA could have an RPM repo of its own for all packages...

Thoughts?

2) A GUI based configuration tool.

The CLI tool is nice, but wouldn't it be nice to have a GUI tool too?

MSRE is coming in mailwatch, but a comprehensive GUI tool would greatly enhance EFA...

Thoughts?

3) Better GUI

Let's make a GUI that rivals this one!

Thoughts?

1) Yep been thinking about a way to just create EFA RPM's for all mayor items.
I got the hosting already setup to facilitate this so now we only have the 'small 'task to create rpm's from all items....... :techie-hiding:

2/3) Eventually I would like to have everyting in a web based GUI but this requires some more programming skills (and in what language, php, python etc.. I prefer python but I'm not that good at it :)

Hi all

Before re-write from scratch a webgui for EFA you could take a look to mine in progress.
Darky&Shawn: If you get me your static ip address i will open an access on my dev box so you will see my work.

After your comments we could decide if it could be the right road for official EFA.

Thx

Cool --> but currently for me the non working update_bad_phishing_sites script will stop all thinking about a working GUI ...

Ryan this thread is for future works on EFA.

Note that:

1) phishing update is related to mailscanner not with efa: plz check mailscanner lists: they already suggested a fix
2) i already post on efa forums a solution (same fix as 1)

So plz don't hijack threads and read ALL threads.

Hi Darky.

The web gui is all coded in php , just like mailwatch and msre.
I've started from msre, so the css are based on it.

You will find the layout similar to mailwatch (yes ... not a big thing but is a start ..).
Some script are written in perl (mainly script launched from the webgui to commit the conf in postfix and other daemons conf file).

ASAP i will open access for u.

Hello Shawn,
I updated my ClamAV doing just this: "Those that are not familiar with EFA who try to update EFA with yum risk breaking their systems..."
(Because the scanner log showed that I needed to)
Clam is still stopping the Viruses but in MailWatch>Status, the tagged Virus emails are "other" and virus counts are not being changed as they were.

IS there a thread I SHOULD have followed and a way back to fix this?
:shifty:
Thanks in advance,

RB
