Nothing showing up in /var/log/maillog but EFA working

Post by webguyz »

Just brought up my EFA 4 system to day and its sending out emails ok but when I went to check /var/log/maillog it was empty. I am used to postfix send ing logs to /var/log/maillog. Any idea why I'm not getting any email logs?

Thanks

Acting like syslog was not installed. Did a yum install syslog and it said it was installed, but when I tried to start it then it said service was not found.

[root@efa4 ~]# yum install syslog
Last metadata expiration check: 1:58:03 ago on Sun 04 Oct 2020 06:33:53 PM CDT.
Package systemd-239-31.el8_2.2.x86_64 is already installed.
Dependencies resolved.
Nothing to do.
Complete!

[root@efa4 ~]# service syslog restart
Redirecting to /bin/systemctl restart syslog.service
Failed to restart syslog.service: Unit syslog.service not found.

Googled symptoms and found article about DNF command

https://linuxconfig.org/install-syslog-on-redhat-8

Working great now.

I had exactly the same issue, I am so used to looking at /var/log/maillog to see what is going on.

I followed the link you posted webguyz and now logging is enabled!

This was on a brand new CentOS 8 build.
