quick question about incoming email for users not yet created

Post by dsheetz »

just curious about a new user that may have had an exchange mailbox created but not an account in EFA. What happens to the incoming mail? Does he or admins get an email report even though he doesn't have an account in EFA yet? I am trying to avoid losing anything, and an email would force him to login and see what is going on.
Our EFA setup will create a user from ad credentials when he tries to login the first time.

EFA is a gateway and mail will pass through the system from the outside world to your exchange server, even if there is no "user" defined in EFA.

Defining users in EFA just gives you a few more options
1/ allowing users to see their own mail queues and to mark their own messages as spam/not spam.
2/ allow users to release mail that might not actually be spam.
3/ allows EFA to reject invalid users at the MTA level (if configured correctly, I think)

I need for users to see their incoming mail queues.
I want minimal configuration required by users.
Asking them all to login and create their account is not going to be consistent, some will some wont.
All will complain (directly to the CEO) if something gets blocked by mistake.
IT deportment does not want to be releasing spam we are a very small team.
Importing ALL users from Active Directory will be ideal but is not working in EFA version 3.0.2.3

By popular demand I am deeply considering writing an import/sync script for AD/LDAP (hopefully this weekend).

I'm not sure if I did something wrong but I think that when you setup MailScanner to use "personalized" SA scores emails for users which are not yet created in EFA will be simply passed through without any checking.

Not 100% if this ist still the case but I remember I had this issue once when I setup EFA freshly and then was wondering why all emails went through unfiltered as I had not yet created any users in EFA :-) - maybe someone can confirm this?

You are correct. If you enable per-user scoring, then email processed for users that are not defined in EFA, will not be filtered.
