!@#$ spammers

Post by pdwalker » 21 Jun 2017 05:10

Is there a way to limit new accounts to posting only in "Introduction" until they've been approved? That last spammer is super annoying.

I notified darky83 about this. Super annoying, and I don't enjoy having to play forum janitor every day.

Something like this perhaps?

https://www.phpbb.com/support/docs/en/3 ... um-access/

Maybe I'll have to install a copy of phBB somewhere to work out if it can be done and how.

There should be a bounty on spammers, with a bonus if you bring only their head.

Yea it is a trade off, or we make it userfriendly for new users (thus allow them to post everywhere after registering) or deny that and they might giveup because the admins need to approve all accounts first.. (which is anoying at best).

I don't really like to limit the forums, as this also means that the forums are not indexed by google for example.

maybe a new captcha system per post or something like that.

captcha? oh hell no. i'd rather see spam.

i wasn't thinking of restricting reading, only posting, so you'd have:

anonymous - read everything
registered, above + post in the introduction forum.
approved, as above + post anywhere.

never restrict reading.

anyway, if i find something workable and can demonstrate it, i'll bring it to your attention.

Done, :D

It is annoying but adding extra steps make it harder for users to post and register also.. Looking at the logs we already block 99%..

Thanks darky83.

Deleting that garbage is satisfying.

I might not check every day, but I will check as often as possible.

Thanks. I figure the less time you spend dealing with spammers, the more time you have for making efa even better. My evil plan is now complete.
