Re: ARC - GMAIL

I don't have a PeerList file existing currently. Should I just create an empty file for openarc to reference or have I misunderstood the bit about removing localhost addresses?

Re: Google's new sender requirements

Thanks Shawn, Will investigate DKIM/DMARC over the next few days. Do you have any documentation on setting that up? I managed to get TLS operational by activating LetsEncrypt so that's one part of it done. SPF is active across all domains already, so that's also good. I'll have a read about ARC as w...

Google's new sender requirements

https://support.google.com/mail/answer/81126 I currently administer a few domains for clients which run through our EFA server. I admit to not having great knowledge on the intricacies of SMTP, so am wondering if/how these new requirements sending email to Gmail will affect us? I'd rather not get to...

Re: Whitelisted IP still rejected

Yeah, we already had to bump up the fake Gmail score in local.cf as they are the next worst culprit for spam. I wish Google would do something about that. It's all good though... We'll keep filtering out all .biz TLDs until someone makes a complaint. It took about 4 months for someone to realise the...

Re: Whitelisted IP still rejected

Finally back and can confirm that it was a malformed RegEx. I'd forgotten to prefix a period with a backslash, so it was including a lot more domains than it should have. I've now resolved it and things are back to normal  eg. the regex was /.biz/ but since I don't deal with them often enough...

Re: Whitelisted IP still rejected

Yep, I'm pretty sure I'm the idiot in this situation and I think there was a malformed regex filter.
I've removed what I suspected what was causing it and the client will test tomorrow as it's now out of hours.
If this is successful, I'll pop back in and confirm precisely what happened.

Re: Whitelisted IP still rejected

I'm also getting this with an M365 hosted address and can't work it out. It's being rejected for reason "Access Denied" and is baffling me. Sender is claiming no issues sending to anyone but our client, so if this is our issue I'll need to get it resolved. I have whitelised the email addre...

Finally upgraded to v4 and just noticed this as well.
Wondering if I've missed something or this is still in the works.
Any updated information would be greatly appreciated.

Changing SpamAssasin default filter scores

Hi all, Just wondering how we might be able to change the default score for the SPOOF_GMAIL_MID rule? We're getting a LOT of fake gmail.com addressed email at the moment so I need to change the rule from 1.5 to something like 4.0. The score appears to be in the following file, however the files in t...

Two months later and the issue still persists. Nothing we've tried has resolved the issues. Getting a bit anxious that we aren't getting updates any more.
Hopefully someone with more knowledge would be able to share. Thanks.

Re: Next Major Release OS Version Survey 2020

Would there be any upgrade path from 3.0.2.6 to 5 by any chance?
We still have a few servers running on that build, and would prefer to not have to do the intermediate jump if possible.

Customise postfix reject messages

Hi all, Just wondering if there's a simple way to customise postfix reject messages when a file type restriction is encountered? e.g. we block all zip/exe/com files, and currently senders will receive a "5.7.1 message content rejected" bounce if they attempt to send a file in the reject li...

Re: Use Postfix to block sender with certain text

Okay, I realise where the problem is occurring... The spammy from address is only sent during the "mail from:" part of the SMTP conversation, which is not tested by header_checks. I did manage to resolve the issue, and will post here for future reference. Let's make a new sender restrictio...

Re: Use Postfix to block sender with certain text

Curiousity got the better of me... Unfortunately no luck with your solution. It still lets the emails straight through to MailScanner. Do we need to postmap the header_checks file for it to work or not? There is a header_checks.db file in /etc/postfix. I have renamed it temporarily as I think we've ...

Very detailed answer, thank you very much for your efforts.
I'll give it a try in the morning as it's approaching close of business on this side of the world.
Will report back after we've implemented and tested.

Use Postfix to block sender with certain text

Hi all, I have an interesting issue... someone out there really enjoys sending mail to our server from numerous compromised servers, IPs are all over the place, but they are targeting one specific user in our system. The only common thing I can find in all of the mail is that there is a certain stri...

Re: Whitelisted address not consistently working

You are a champion... I've made the change. Now to sit back and wait for the next bulk mailing.
I've asked the user to notify me when it's about to occur, so I'll watch the MailWatch log to ensure that it treats it properly.
I'll report back once verified. Thanks once again!

Re: Whitelisted address not consistently working

It's been in the white list since before I discovered this "issue". Some emails from that user are being whitelisted and pass straight through, but for some very odd reason when it's a bulk email, it gets scanned and whitelisting seems to be ignored. Single emails pass through green just l...

Re: Whitelisted address not consistently working

Just perusing the logs and it looks like they've just sent a couple of email blasts. What has worked: SpamAssassin rule which applies a -10.0 value to email with their address in the FROM header. What didn't work: trusted_networks in local.cf. MailWatch still shows it as a 'scanned' email and not wh...

Re: Whitelisted address not consistently working

I have added the Exchange server IP to the trusted network. Just need to wait for the next bulk run to see if it works or not.
It only happens once a week or thereabouts, so might need to wait a few more days. Cheers.
